Nankai University is a key comprehensive university administrated by National Ministry of Education in China. It is also thealma mater of Premier Zhou. Nankai University was originally founded by Xiu Yan in 1904 and was established in 1919 by Boling Zhang who upheld the concept of the campus. The campus was destroyed by the Japanese invaders in 1937, and after that, the school moved south. In 1938, Nankai University and Peking University, Tsinghua University formed the Southwest United University, which was known as "Institute of North Star". After the reforms and opening up, Supported by the Ministry of Education and the Tianjin Municipal Government, Nankai University was included into the national "211 Project" and "985 Project" that were focused on the construction of a comprehensive research university. The motto of Nankai University is " Dedication to public interests, acquisition of all-round capability, and aspiration for progress with each day", and it regards the belief of"know China, serve China" as its purpose. The historical mission of Nankai University is to cultivate talents and prosperous academics, to strengthen the country, to be the heritage of civilization, and strive to build a world-class university.
Jilin University, located in Changchun City, Jilin Province, was founded in 1946. It is a key comprehensive university under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education, and strongly supported by China’s “Project 211” and “Project 985”. In 2000, Jilin University merged with the former Jilin University of Technology, the former Norman Bethune University of Medical Sciences, the former Changchun University of Science and Technology and Changchun Institute of Posts and Telecommunications. Duisburg-Essen University is a public university in Germany, located in the west of North Rhine Westphalia. Duisburg-Essen University was merged by its predecessors Duisburg University and Essen University in 2003 and it is one of the top ten universities in Germany now. The Institute of East Asian Studies was established in 1994 and is now the largest contemporary social science research center on East Asia in Germany. The Institute has more than 70 scholars from different disciplines to participate in scientific research and teaching, to carry out of the research on economy, politics and society of China, Japan and South Korea. The innovation and entrepreneurship research is an important research field of the Institute of East Asian Studies of Duisburg-Essen University.
